In the wake of the Grammy-nominated Downtown album, it was time for Petula Clark and producer/songwriter Tony Hatch to record a proper follow-up album, rather than throwing together some well-chosen singles. The result was I Know a Place, the first real album to capture Clark's new, post-"Downtown" sound. Not quite all of it works in that vein; "Strangers and Lovers" has a rather older feel than much of the rest - except for the electric guitar behind the outro.
I Know A Place (LP, Album, Mono). Apparently I am a Petula Clark Fan, or at least a fan of her producer/arranger Tony Hatch, because I really liked this garage sale find. I bought it cheap because I recognized some of the singles on it and discovered a rockin' pleasant surprise

By January '65, she was at the top of the charts, and it was obvious that this was one voice that was destined to outlast most of the others coming to our shores in the wake of the Beatles. It wasn't until the follow-up "I Know A Place" (released in the . as "The New Petula Clark Album"), for which Clark earned her second Grammy, that listeners were made aware of what the post-"Downtown" Petula was capable of accomplishing. Lyrics to "I Know A Place" song by Petula Clark: Every day when the work is behind you and the shop and the store put the lock on the door, just ge. .I know a place where we can go. At the door there's a man who will greet you. Then you go downstairs to some tables and chairs. Soon, I'm sure, you'll be tapping your feet because the beat is the greatest there. All around there are girls and boys. It's a swingin' place, a cellar full of noise! It's got an atmosphere of its own somehow. You gotta come along right now!
