There are many people in our society that are rightfully seen as heroes. Firefighters, police officers, doctors and soldiers all save lives  . We look up to all these people and sing their praises. These heroes get plenty of headlines and are depicted in movies that tout their value to society. They, however, are not the only heroes worthy of accolades. An everyday hero can be anyone. A person who selflessly intervenes in a situation small or big is a hero. We tend to think of heroes as those who run into burning buildings or jump into the water to save someone who is drowning and yes, they are definitely heroes.

by Sly and the Family Stone. The year Sesame Street went on the air? 1969, the same year Stand! became a hit album and "Everyday People" dominated the airwaves. We might take it for granted now, but Sesame Street was the first show for kids that tried to depict race, class, and gender equality as a positive unity, instead of showing women, minorities, and the poor as the butt of stereotypical jokes. The sort of multiculturalism that we know now was a new priority, just squeezing itself into the mainstream, and Sesame Street's cheerful multiracial faces were actually pretty controversial at first. Everyday People" is above all, a reminder that sometimes, the corniest things around, like Sesame Street or Dr. Seuss, are still the best.
