Monstrance - though there is no denying the intelligence and probing inquisitiveness that went into it - is not for casual listening, it's not party music, and it isn't a whole lot of fun. But stick with it, give it a chance to take hold, really pay attention, open up, and as the music finds its way deep within your cranium you may just find yourself marveling at its nuanced shifts, inspired sound clashes, and ability to challenge its own makers at every turn.

Motion is the debut LP by The Cinematic Orchestra, released on 27 September 1999 on Ninja Tune. The album's concept came from core band member, Jason Swinscoe, who had amassed various samples - drum patterns, basslines and melody samples - that had inspired and influenced him. He then presented them to a group of musicians to learn and then improvise around. The resulting draft tracks were then re-mixed on computer by Swinscoe to create the finished album.

Vance Orchestra are made one of The Netherlands' best kept secrets. They have kicking around since a great number of years ( before the Vance Orchestra under different names) and use all sorts of electronica and vinyl to play their music. From vinyl they lift a few sound sources, looped them, and fed them through a simple set of delays and analogue synths. The way it's described here makes it sound very simple, and maybe it is.
