Compilation style album consisting of songs from different Jam gigs 1977-82. Electronically recorded Live - play It on all phonographs'. If you’re looking for stadium rock with ranks of lighters held aloft and guitar solos against sunsets over ancient monuments, then you’re in the wrong place. But if you want to feel as if you are two rows from the front, being jostled by those pogoing and jumping around you, getting crushed as the crowd rush the stage and being showered in sweat each time the guitarist shakes their head, then step right in. This album provides what no other contemporary Jam release can - a glimpse into the experience that was seeing and hearing The Jam live

A last farewell gift from the band in the year Weller spectacularly announced his departure from it, Dig the New Breed is a sometimes rough around the edges live overview of the band's work, from small club dates in 1979 to much larger venues in 1982. Recording quality throughout is quite excellent - it's not specified whether the band always recorded its shows with such care and just had a mountain of tapes to work through, but the end results are quite enjoyable. It's not a perfect album, admittedly, though that's due in large part to the sheer number of memorable songs.
